What is at stake
Your application is a complete picture of who you are.
A completed loan application typically contains enough detail to impersonate you. Treat the device you submit it from — laptop, phone, or desktop — as the container for that identity, and harden it accordingly.
- Full legal name, date of birth, and current address
- Driver's licence, passport, and Medicare numbers
- Payslips, tax returns, and bank statements
- Existing loan, credit card, and superannuation balances
In the wrong hands, this information is used to open accounts, redirect mail, and apply for credit in your name — damage that takes months, sometimes years, to unwind.
Six steps before you apply
Practical steps to reduce risk to your personal information.
Install reputable antivirus
Choose a well-reviewed, commercially supported antivirus suite, such as Norton 360. Avoid unverified “free” security tools promoted through pop-ups — they are frequently malicious.
Configure it properly
Enable real-time scanning, automatic definition updates, and firewall protection. Run an initial full-system scan before submitting your application, and turn on any ransomware or identity-theft module the suite provides.
Keep your system updated
Install operating-system and browser updates as soon as they arrive. Most updates patch security holes that attackers actively exploit against people handling sensitive financial data.
Remove unused or unknown software
Uninstall applications you no longer recognise or use. Unknown programs may be dormant spyware or bundleware quietly harvesting keystrokes. Decline bundled toolbars during installs and remove anything you did not knowingly add.
Use unique passwords and 2FA
Use a password manager so every account — email, banking, the lender portal — has a strong, unique password. Turn on two-factor authentication everywhere it is offered, especially email and bank logins.
Verify who you are dealing with
FINDATSER will only request documents through secure channels after an in-person or video consultation. If a lender or “broker” emails you out of the blue asking for payslips or ID, call the company on a number from their verified website before responding.
Our side of the table
Disclosed only as required
We share documents with a lender only once you have confirmed you wish to proceed with that institution, and only to the extent that lender needs to assess the file.
Never sent over email
We never ask for sensitive documents over unencrypted email. Documents are moved through verified, access-controlled portals — never as plain attachments.
If you believe any of your credentials have been compromised, contact your bank and IDCARE (Australia's national identity and cyber support service) immediately. The earlier the response, the smaller the damage.
